Nobody Puts Baby In A Corner
The Chamber of Hickory Nut Gorge of Lake Lure, NC held the Annual Lake Lure (Dirty Dancing) Dance Festival honoring the late great Patrick Swayze, star of the iconic film Dirty Dancing (1987). The festival donates proceeds to PanCan, whose mission is to “take bold action to improve the lives of everyone impacted by pancreatic cancer by advancing scientific research, building community, sharing knowledge, and advocating for patients.” The festival opened with live blues, soul, and rock n’ roll music from Pleasure Chest, followed by Picante, playing Latin jazz, rock, and reggae, and closed with Continental Divide featuring Franke Previte. Franke is an American singer, songwriter, Academy Award-winning composer, and Grammy and Golden Globe nominee for his songs “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” and “Hungry Eyes” from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack.
Throughout the day, The Asheville Ballet performed choreographed dances and taught public dance lessons. Nearing the end of the day, the infamous Lake Lift Competition was held on Lake Lure Beach overlooking the historical 1927 Lake Lure Inn and Spa. To top off the day, everyone gathered in lawn chairs for a magical moonlit movie showing of Dirty Dancing on the big screen!
